The legal backdrop explains the timing. New York's sweepstakes ban took effect December 5, 2025. California's AB 831 was chaptered October 11, 2025 and became operative January 1, 2026. Tennessee's ban took effect on the governor's signature, May 22, 2026. Maine's LD 2007 became effective July 29, 2026, per the state's Gambling Control Unit. Louisiana's dual-currency ban, Act 182, took effect August 1, 2026, alongside a companion racketeering act. Oklahoma's SB 1589, enacted over a veto on May 14, 2026, makes operating or promoting sweepstakes casinos a felony effective November 1, 2026.

Operators rarely say why they are leaving - neither The Money Factory nor CoinFrenzy stated a reason. But the shrinking footprint is measurable: VGW now restricts play in 16 US jurisdictions, up from five at the end of 2024.

LuckyLand Slots (VGW)

• Announced: July 28, 2026, in a VGW statement: "after eight years of LuckyLand Slots... we have made the decision to close the brand."

  • August 24, 2026 - all gameplay ends. VGW's own wording frames this as the date it closes the brand.
  • September 14, 2026 - final cutoff. All Sweeps Coins redemption requests must be submitted before September 14, 2026; after that, redemptions are disabled and account access is blocked permanently.

VGW confirmed those three brands continue operating, but it did not direct players to migrate to them.
